Well, you may have heard the saying: “Laughter is the best medicine.” This is actually true. There’s a number of scientific facts to support this. What are the health benefits? Here are some 🙂

Reduce The Blood Pressure

There are many people in Thailand who have high blood pressure (hypertension). In 2019, it was reported that over a million and half patients who were suffering from hypertensive disease. And there were 9,313 deaths per 100 thousand population caused in the same year. During the outbreak of COVID-19 too, it has been known that possibly high blood pressure can make you more likely to get severely ill from COVID-19.

There are more than a few studies that show that the laughter can reduce the blood pressure. By a three-month-long study conducted by American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions in 2011, it shows that the laughter was more effective in decreasing the blood pressure than the music therapy. So what can save you from COVID-19 and other diseases? Make time for a good laughter! You may set an alarm on your phone for “fun break”. Watch something funny, like a video on YouTube. A well-planned 5-15 minute break for humor can help! And set another alarm to get back to work 😀

Reduce Anxiety And Other Negative Emotions

The effects of laughter therapy are HUGE. Many studies show that the humorous laughter is very beneficial in improving in anxiety in patients with Parkinson’s disease, reduce anxiety and depressing in nursing students, and for menopausal women, laughter helped them to be more optimistic, having more self-esteem, and less depressed. I’m sure even during the pandemic, having a good laughter can help us cope with the situation and and get through this difficult trial.

Even though it’s hard to laugh when life is hard, but sometimes it means life to be able to laugh. If you tend to be a perfectionist, it may be hard for you to be optimistic when things don’t work out the way you wanted or planned. But hey, learn to laugh at yourself. It is okay to make mistakes. Actually, laughing at yourself helps you put mistakes in perspective, deal with hardships, and move past misfortunes. You will be able to know how to handle any mountain-like problems with lightheartedness 😉
